Essen in Pittsburgh in July 2021: what opens and what closes?

A new month has started and you know what that means. We’re back with our monthly food and drink updates. Don’t miss out on adding some of these hotspots to your Pittsburgh Munchy map.

Since it is officially July, Pennsylvania’s mask mandate has ended. Keep in mind, however, that while the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, some restaurants still need masks to protect their employees and customers.

And while the capacity increase seems like good news, many restaurants still are Problems with resources and personnel. So please remember to be friendly, careful and of course give a good tip.

40 north now serves global cuisine in Alphabet City on the north side and takes over the former Bruges on the north side. It shares space with the City of Asylum bookstore and is run by Chef Bethany Zozula. directed and beverage director Sam Suter. Both come from the Ace Hotel’s popular Whitfield Restaurant, per Pittsburgh magazine.

🍔 Citizen brews on the highline in the South Side is your new go-to for crispy, juicy craft beers and crunchy burgers. On the Menu, find items named after and inspired by places in and around the Burgh.

🍷 Con Alma, the popular Shadyside restaurant and jazz bar, has finally open their second location Downtown, which brings worldly flavors and sounds to Penn Avenue, directly across from Heinz Hall. Earlier this year, Cona Alma was named one of America’s Best Bars of 2021 esquire.

🍇 EVIA Greek in Bellevue has the goal To transport Pittsburghers to a tavern in Greece, like that NEXTPittsburgh. The menu includes Mediterranean staples as well as unique family recipes.

🌮 La Bodega just opened its doors on Carson Street on the South Side and serves tacos, burritos and fresh aguas frescas.

🍙 Nanban, by Roger Li from Ki Ramen and Ki Pollo, combined both menus to offer Asian soul food: ramen, fried chicken sandwiches, bao and more. This was Li’s reaction after Ki Ramen closed due to a flood and will eventually reopen as an entirely new restaurant NEXTPittsburgh.

🍻 Two Frays Brewery is open and ready for you to break a cold one on her patio in a restored townhouse on Penn Avenue in Garfield. New beer alarm: You have just published “The salty ginger. “

🍕 Wood-fired by Lorelei flings delicious’ za in East Liberty as well as a wide selection of wines to pair with your cake. This new spot is from the team behind it Lorelei, a cocktail bar / beer hall in the historic Wernerbau.

🍔 The Pittsburgh Sandwich Society Food truck brings her delicious sandos to a brick and mortar. Their new spot is next to Strange Roots ExperimentalAles in Millvale, and they’re kicking off their grand opening next week with an updated sandwich menu, music, and brunch.

🚙 Gastropub & garage at the rear parks on Butler Street in a converted auto repair shop and sells food inspired by an all-American road trip. It is expected to have gas in the first week of July, they said Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and NEXTPittsburgh.

🍦Bruster’s real ice cream opens a new location on Brownsville Road in Squirrel Hill this Independence Day weekend.

🍳 Wild child, from the celebrated chef Jamilka Borges, brings coastal cuisine, including fresh fish dishes, to Mount Etna. Noisy restaurant Instagram, they are taking steps to open very soon.

🍸 Margaux transformed an old department store in East Liberty’s newest cafe and lounge. In the mornings, coffee, tea and small bites are offered for breakfast, and when the sun goes down, classic cocktails, plates to share and desserts pro NEXTPittsburgh.

🧀 Bitter End Rye & Charcuterie Bar is the sister restaurant of Rear End and the former location of Noochs Bar. It offers “whiskey & meat” in a modern whisper bar with specialty cocktails and charcuterie boards. This location opens a few months after Rear End.

🍸 G’s on Liberty replaces the Alexander’s Italian Bistro on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield with “a full service restaurant that focuses on real, innovative, creative food and cocktails.” They are scheduled to open in late summer, by NEXTPittsburgh.

🌮 Gordos Tacos & Tequila is almost finished with construction in Mount Washington, and they are catching up after some setbacks during the pandemic.

🍺 Sly Fox Brewing Co., a brewery based in Philadelphia, takes root this summer at The Highline on the South Side. In the meantime, you can use theirs Instagram to find out more about their latest pop-ups.

🌮 Tako brings his luxury, Asian-Mexican fusion to Bakery Square this summer.

🍳 The journeyman’s table is still on the way until it opens on Penn Avenue and will soon be offering fresh, seasonal dinners alongside craft cocktails, wine and local beers.

🍵 Adda coffee and tea house opens its fourth location in the cultural district of the city center this fall with a combination of a café and a local dealer hall, per Good food Pittsburgh.

🍺 Back alley brows is on a mission to start Dormont’s first craft brewery, and you can Follow her progress on Instagram.

🍕 AVP, a pizza-focused spin-off from Alta Via, joins Bakery Square’s restaurant offering this fall and complements the city’s large burrito restaurant portfolio, reports Pittsburgh Magazine.

🍸Storyville lounge, a “hidden” bar from the Victoria era, becomes the newest project of the owners of Dr. Tumblety’s Time-Inspired Specialty Shop in Allentown coming this fall, NEXTPittsburgh reports.

Tupelo honey, a chain of southern cuisine, arrives to Station Square later this fall and becomes an early anchor of the updated Freight House Shops via Pittsburgh Patch.

🍻 Bonafide Beer Co. is planned for the former Chicken Latino spot in the Strip District.

🐟 Work on Wild Ninja Asian Grill is on the road in Oakland, replaces Uncle Sam’s Gourmet Subs, reports Pennsylvania.

💛 Yinz coffeewho recently took over the old Crazy Mocha storefront on the North Side has plans to open another location in Bloomfield.

🍦 based in New York Posman Books and Odd Fellows Ice Cream Co. team up to share and win stories in the Strip District Terminal Building, NEXTPittsburgh reports.

🍕 Piada Italian street food expands its fast, casual Italian restaurant with three new locations in the East End, South Hills and Robinson later this year.

🍤 2 sisters 2 sons in Sharpsburg is expected to announce their second location serving “the most authentic Caribbean food in town”.

🍱 Bento a new restaurant comes to Shadyside according to PennsylvAsia, but there is no word on the details or the schedule.

🍺 Pittsburgh Brewing Co. plans a new brewery at the former Pittsburgh Glass Works plant on 40 acres along the Allegheny River in Creighton. Pittsburgh Business Times has the latest – and more – on the site’s fascinating history.

🍵 Tupelo honey teas bought the building next door in Millvale and will be renovated and expanded in the next few years. PS There will be garden tea parties!

🚀 Grist House Craft Brewery turns a Cold War-era Nike Missile Command Center in Collier Township into another outpost of the popular brewery. But there is a lot of work ahead of you so be patient. An opening date is expected in a year or two.

🎸 Howler’s is moving for freedom from the east after 19 years in Bloomfield, reports City Paper.

🍕 Great burrito brings a restaurant to be named to Lawrenceville with a focus on pizza, vegetarian dishes and burgers, reports Pittsburgh Magazine.

🍔 Arlington Beverage Club, a new concept by famous chef Kevin Sousa, comes to an old social club in Allentown called St. George Lyceum, the Pittsburgh Stream Details.

🏛 The vandal owners bring two new concepts to the Pitt Building Downtown, reports the Post-Gazette. One is a sandwich shop. The other is a sacrament club called Saint John.
