Eating outdoors in a not-so-secret garden

Eating outdoors is something that warms the soul and pleases the senses. On a mild day, friends and families can gather on the terrace to share endless stories and laugh. Here you can relax, enjoy the view, have a drink, maybe listen to the twittering of birds or the rush of wind and make wonderful memories. I just discovered (or rediscovered) a cool place to eat al fresco, where you can do all of that and more. Tucked away in the not-so-secret, lush garden of the Holiday Inn Express Manila, the Jardin recently reopened at Resorts World Manila in Newport City, Pasay. Certainly, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, eating outdoors has never been so refreshingly heartwarming!

Welcome to the Jardin: Here you can eat, talk and chill a lot.

Rethink public space

With the pandemic still lurking around every proverbial corner, alfresco dining has become a trend of the new normal in most parts of the world. With most COVID-19 outbreaks happening indoors, city planners, planners and architects are developing innovative designs that focus on outdoor spaces. Eating outdoors can definitely be a COVID blessing, and some people are hoping it will remain so after the pandemic goes away.

Located on the ground floor of the Holiday Inn Express Manila, Jardin offers a casual dining option where the air quality is better (than in a cramped, stuffy restaurant) and ventilation is more natural.

Jardin has actually been around since 2016 as an alternative to alfresco dining at what was then the Remington Hotel. The Jardin spices up Manila’s nightlife and was designed as a casual resto-bar for going out and happy hours, serving drinks with live entertainment such as acoustic sessions, DJs and comedy acts.

“The pandemic delayed the reopening of the Jardin as the hotel moved to the Holiday Inn Express Manila,” said Kristine Mae Bernardo of Corporate Communications at Resorts World Manila. “But with the loosening of health and safety restrictions and when Resorts World Manila received the seal of approval from the Pasay LGU (Local Government Unit), the Department of Commerce and Industry, and the Department of the Interior and the local government, Resorts World Management decided to stop operations from Jardin to enforce. “

Rest assured that the Holiday Inn Express Manila is continuously committed to upholding minimum standards of public health and safety protocols set by the government. The hotel has also implemented the Intercontinental Hotels Group’s global policy for the prevention of COVID-19 in partnership with Ecolab (a global leader in water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions and services) and Diversey (a pioneer in cleaning and hygiene technologies) .

Entering Jardin is like getting lost in a tropical garden and finding an oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle. The entire area was designed and designed by Resorts World Manila’s in-house environmental services team.

Open air, safer socializing

Aside from its refreshing, postcard-perfect green, what are the main features of Jardin? Probably its best feature is that it is outdoors, which makes it an ideal place for casual and safer socializing, especially amid the pandemic. The open-air environment exudes a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for guests who want to pull their heels up and wash away the dust of a long, hard day.

So what’s on the menu? The current menu offers a variety of bar chow items, pizzas and drinks.

In keeping with its casual ambience, the Jardin offers easy-to-eat classic pinoy street dishes such as ihaw-ihaw (pork grill) and isaw (grilled pork or chicken intestines). Plenty of pizza too! There is the children’s favorite pepperoni loaded with salami or the four-cheese pizza with four types of cheese. But of course there is the ultimate Pizza Margherita, named after Queen Margherita, who was allegedly so bored with French gourmet food that she called on the best pizza maker in Naples to create different pizzas for her.

Jardin can accommodate up to 30 guests. Advance reservation is recommended. Intimate events can be booked as long as the minimum health protocols of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) are followed.

Welcome to Jardin, where life is airy and easy!
