Restaurant review: Carmen – news

The Barceló Hotel Group has partnered with the world famous LaLiga football organization and the Spanish Extravaganza Festival to host the UAE’s second edition of this gastronomic festival, held in Dubai from September 15th to 17th.

Occidental Al Jaddaf’s new Spanish restaurant Carmen was one of the festival venues, along with a drink at Dukes The Palm, A Royal Hideaway Hotel.

The festival celebrated the Spanish motto La vida tiene otro sabor, which freely translated into English means Life with You has Another Flavor.

Michelin star chef Ricardo Sotres, who hosted a number of unique live dining experiences, was a top draw for the festival.

The tastefully decorated Carmen gave a little insight into Spanish culture. The gourmet restaurant came alive with the pulsating numbers of Caroll Celedon and flamenco dancer Raquel, whose kicks were embraced by guests on a lazy weekend and many of whom longed for their local culture in the heart of Dubai.

The cuisine was inspired by Spain’s popular football culture – from the Valencian paella to the Catalan crème brûlée from FC Barcelona to the squid sandwich from Atlético de Madrid with pickled lemon mayo and Real Madrid’s meringue filled with red fruits.

Each dish was an authentic representation of the different regions of Spain from Catalonia to Madrid to Valencia to the Basque Country.
