The newly opened Restobar Nght Mrkt, which is modeled on the model of a night market, offers a unique experience.
When you step into the place on Khader Nawaz Khan Road, you have the feeling of stepping into a busy market where everything you need is just around the corner. Founded by Varun Sheth, Ritvik Varun and four others, the place showcases a unique theme for its interiors and food. “We wanted to introduce something new and unique to Chennai.
This resto bar takes inspiration from markets around the world. We have put together a wide range of dishes that customers can choose from as they wish. Our menu is constantly evolving – in the coming months we will add a few more kitchens depending on demand, ”says Varun Sheth, one of the partners.
If the customer is in the mood for a good old Podi Idli or a Kerala-style beef curry with Malabar Paratha, Nght Mrkt has them covered. When Ritvik Varun told us that their scarce potatoes were addicting, we all agreed. This must-have starter consists of crispy potatoes tossed in chili oil, garlic, and spring onions. Some starters on the menu include okra fries, peri peri paneer tikka, and spicy pork momos. In contrast to the normal pizzas, their pesto burrata pizza with a thick crust is served in rectangular slices. The Detroit-style pizza is made with a parmesan crust with pesto, burrata and oven-roasted tomatoes. If you want to explore more Pan-Asian cuisine, Nght Mrkt has options like Nasi Goreng and Thai red curry with jasmine rice, which are full of flavors from Indonesia and Thailand. The sushi tacos combine the best of Asian and Mexican cuisine. Interestingly, the taco’s fillings have an Indian twist – they include raw mango, pickled carrots and cheese, and other options like teriyaki chicken or smoked salmon, cream cheese, and flavorful mayo.
The availability of a large selection of drinks makes Nght Mrkt one of the new favorite hangouts. “We have what are called cocktail buckets that can be shared by 3 or 4,” says Varun. Apart from the classic drinks like Margarita or Cosmopolitan, if you want to be a little experimental you can try their special drinks – Classic Mrkt Mary – vodka, fresh lemon juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire and tomato juice or Nght Mrkt Roberta – gin, vodka, tequila brandy, Blueberries and Grapefruit Soda.
The interiors of Nght Mrkt deserve a mention – guests can leisurely stroll around and get their food from seven stalls, including a coffee and ice cream station. Ritvik will shortly be introducing liquid nitrogen ice cream to the dessert menu. “We plan to add six ice creams – three will be alcoholic and three will be non-alcoholic. The most popular desserts at the moment are the churros, which are served with salted caramel and dark chocolate sauce, ”jokes Varun.
