Eat and drink your way around the world in this new IG-worthy place with an international theme

In February of this year, a refreshing new page was added to Calgary’s food diary. DJ NEWBOY, also known as Ronnie Mupambwa, opened his globally inspired restaurant and bar, Chakalaka, which is now in the former 1410 World Beer House. The restaurant caused quite a stir back then thanks to its grand opening. After a little over 9 months, the enthusiasm is far from dying. Yes, we are here to tell you why.

Let’s talk about the ambience first. This gigantic multi-story building with a roof terrace offers an upscale interior that is downright Instagram-capable. The atmosphere is surprisingly super chilled and inviting. It makes for a unique, chic, casual experience that is perfect for almost any occasion and gathering – be it a family reunion, a cocktail and snack night with the girls, or even an office soiree.

The menu of the Resto-Bar, which is equivalent to a global food tour, does justice to this inviting interior. How to find tandoori chicken next to miso tofu next to jerk chicken and shrimp tacos. The menu is as varied as it is lavish. And if the names seduce you, wait to see their ornate, luscious coatings.

The menu also features a variety of exotic meats (think kangaroo, ostrich, alligator, and frog legs) that somehow won’t break your wallet. Honest confession: we didn’t try the exotic meat, although apparently these are the crowd pullers.

With all the fantastic food (oh, and also the hot stone cooking at the table) there is also plenty of original cocktails and a carefully curated selection of wine and beer. The Kilauea, a Hawaiian cocktail, will definitely be part of our next order.

Now comes the best part – they have one Happy hour even. The happy hour menu offers food from $ 8 and cocktails from $ 2.75. Awe-damn-some, right!

The restaurant lives up to its triple motto of being inclusive, bringing people together and offering them an unforgettable dining experience. It’s the kind of place that becomes your destination after a single visit.

We encourage you to check out their insta for a visual teaser of what to expect. And here is the chakalaka websiteYou will need this after you’ve seen the enticing AF delight they programmed. You are welcome!
