SSP expands reach in Spain with eight new units

The SSP Group, operator of gastronomy and beverage shops in global travel, has signed a number of new contracts in Spain. Through two retentions and a new contract, SSP will continue to expand its business in the region and operate a further eight units at Spanish airports.

SSP’s renewed contract with Seville Airport has extended the partnership for a further seven years and will introduce a variety of F&B brands across five new units. Passengers in Seville can enjoy a premium coffee offering in the form of Starbucks, an Italian-inspired espresso bar in Ritazza and an American sports bar, O’Learys. SSP will also operate a restaurant called The Garden and an as yet unnamed gastro restaurant that will offer premium tapas using local suppliers where possible, as will SSP’s larger new units due to open in time for the summer.

SSP has also retained its Granada Airport business, where it will operate two new entities. The agreement extends the partnership between the airport and SSP for another five years, opening Spain’s first convenience store in Point. The new store, an SSP brand that has been very successful in Norway, will offer a coffee menu as well as sandwiches, baguettes, pastries and more for passengers looking for a quick snack. SSP will also operate the Garden Restaurant in Granada, serving hot dishes including local favorites such as pianono, a local pastry, to allow airport visitors to enjoy the authentic flavors of the region.

In addition, SSP has also secured a new land-based unit at Alicante Airport with a five-year contract, which will include a new Starbucks with a terrace where travelers can enjoy the Alicante sun while enjoying a coffee.

Jeremy Fennell, CEO Nordics and Continental Europe at SSP Group, said: “Our goal is to create a perfectly tailored mix of brands to meet the needs of our passengers and enhance their experience. We’ve achieved this by introducing well-known international brands along with a range of authentic local options. With a huge pent-up demand for holiday travel over the past two years, we anticipate extremely popular Easter and summer times at holiday hotspots such as our locations in Spain and look forward to offering our guests a local experience wherever possible. We are also excited to continue our partnership with Granada and operate our first SBUX unit in Alicante.”
